A health system vice president told Dr. Kirsten Lin that physicians cannot be trusted to manage their own schedules. She and Dr. Natalie Gentile met at a DPC Summit, spent six months of weekends vaccinating independent clinicians and homebound patients, then launched Direct Care Physicians of Pittsburgh in January 2022, the first managed services organization built for Direct Primary Care.

A 10 mile non-compete stopped Dr. Christa Springston from even making house calls from her own home, so she took a protractor to the map and opened Health Springs Direct at 10.02 miles. She works out of one 12 by 17 foot room in an executive suite outside Atlanta, and folds FAA flight physicals for airline pilots into the membership.
